FARMINGTON — An 18-year-old from Centerville is being held without bail for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old “50-60 times” since August 2017.
Edinson Marlon Espinoza-Sabuco, 18, was booked in Davis County Jail on Friday on three counts of rape of a child, a first-degree felony.
Police were notified of the sexual abuse on June 6 after she told a Child Protective Services investigator that she had been having sex with Espinoza-Sabuco.
Police interviewed the victim on June 9 at the Davis Children’s Justice Center, where she said they had been having sex since August 2017, when their relationship resumed after Espinoza-Sabuco had earlier been convicted of sexually abusing the same girl three years ago.
The records from his previous conviction are sealed and no other information was immediately available.
The 13-year-old told police about three separate times they had sex, one while Espinoza-Sabuco was 17 and twice when he was 18.
On June 8, police went to Espinoza-Sabuco’s Salt Lake City workplace to interview him. When asked about his relationship with the victim, he told police similar stories to what the victim had told police.
Espinoza-Sabuco estimated that he and the girl had sex “50-60 times” between August 2017 and June 2018, the probable cause statement says.
Espinoza-Sabuco’s previous conviction was the result of charges from Centerville Police. He is scheduled to have an expungement hearing for those charges on June 18 in 3rd District Juvenile Court, according to the probable cause statement.
Espinoza-Sabuco is being held without bail in the Davis County Jail because he told police that he had purchased a plane ticket to move back to his home country of Peru in July, according to online court documents.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Espinoza-Sabuco has yet to be formally charged in Farmington’s 2nd District Court.
