TAYLORSVILLE — Bountiful scored five runs in the fifth inning to run-rule defending state champion West for a 16-6 win in the 5A state quarterfinals Tuesday at the Valley Complex.
Dashani Purcell and Sophia Stoddard each hit two home runs — a two-run and a three-run shot apiece — to pace the Braves. Shambre Maestas and Libbie Hawker each hit RBI singles. McHailee Danner threw a five-inning complete game in the win.
Bountiful took an 11-0 lead after the second inning and West scored all six of its runs in the third.
Bountiful will face the winner of the Box Elder-Maple Mountain quarterfinal at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
TUESDAY’S FEATURED GAMES
DAVIS 8, CLEARFIELD 4
TAYLORSVILLE — Davis took a 4-0 lead after two innings and went on to end Clearfield’s season in the 6A state playoffs at the Valley Complex.
Carley Croshaw hit a three-run home run for Davis. Paige Elkins, Maggie Miller and Mia Cullimore each had two hits, with Cullimore doubling and driving in two and Elkins driving in one. Whitney Crowley picked up the win, giving up two hits and one run in four innings.
Madilyn Martindale batted 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI for Clearfield. Braxtyn Haynes and Kaycee Valencia each drove in one for the Falcons. Clearfield ends the season at 15-9.
DAVIS 11, COPPER HILLS 5
TAYLORSVILLE — Davis took a 9-0 lead in the second inning and went on to eliminate Copper Hills from the 6A state tournament.
Mia Cullimore and Carley Croshaw each hit two home runs. They hit back to back home runs in the first inning to give the Darts a 2-0 lead. Cullimore added a three-run bomb and Croshaw a solo shot in the second. Kya Wilmott pitched a complete game for the win.
Davis will face Syracuse at noon Wednesday in the one-loss bracket.
LAYTON vs. HERRIMAN (PPD)
TAYLORSVILLE — The Layton vs. Herriman 6A state quarterfinals contest at Valley Complex was postponed due to lightning in the fifth inning with Herriman leading 10-6. The game will be resumed at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
SPRINGVILLE 5, ROY 4
TAYLORSVILLE — Springville took a 2-0 lead after five innings, then scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to claim a walk-off victory and eliminate Roy from the 5A state tournament.
Mia Fernandes batted 2 for 4 with a three-run triple for Roy. Kayla Webb added an RBI single. Maysa Averett took the loss. The Royals finish the season at 15-13.
CORNER CANYON 5, WOODS CROSS 2
TAYLORSVILLE — Woods Cross was held to four hits as its season ended in a 5A playoff loss to Corner Canyon at the Valley Complex
Julana Te'o hit a triple, and Ari Ayala and Jade Valdez each hit a double for the Wildcats. Mekenna Trader drove in a run and Valdez took the loss. Woods Cross finishes the season at 5-15.
RIVERTON 12, CLEARFIELD 0 (F/5)
OREM — Riverton allowed just Clearfield hit as the Silverwolves knocked the Falcons out of the 6A state baseball tournament with a run-rule victory.
Taylor Sato went 1 for 2 for Clearfield, which finishes the season with a 16-13 record.
CLEARFIELD 9, COPPER HILLS 5
OREM — Earlier in the day, Clearfield fought back from a 4-1 first-inning deficit to beat Copper Hills in the 6A one-loss bracket at Utah Valley University.
Taylor Sato hit 3 for 5 with three RBIs and a home run, Jaxon Mansfield batted 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Ethan Giacalone hit a double and drove in two runs.
The Falcons took a 5-4 lead with four runs in the second inning and added three more in the third to go ahead 8-4.
RIVERTON 7, DAVIS 5
OREM — Riverton scored two runs in the top of the 10th inning to end Davis’ season in the 6A one-loss bracket at Utah Valley University.
The Darts took a 3-0 lead after one inning, which the Silverwolves matched with three runs in the second.
Adam Hackmeister and Stockton Hall each batted 2 for 4 with an RBI. Zach Hoskins, Garrett Larsen and Parker Jensen each drove in a run for Davis. The Darts finish the season with a 20-8 record.
